All ancient healing disciplines that have remained unpolluted by our modern need for everything to happen in a rush, work to the most ancient, tried and well tested formula of: “Permanent change is only made gradually, over time, through repetition”
It was knowledge of this that led Hippocrates to declare that there were only three ingredients necessary for health: Exercise, Diet and MASSAGE
This should come as no surprise as his teacher (Herodicus) believed that he could “extend the length of life” through Massage.
Of course it would never have occurred to either of these two giants of world medicine to have the occasional one-off Massage. For them, Massage would have been a weekly event – if not daily.
These days we do know that the human psyche is a profound and complex mechanism that does not handle sudden change well. Even the most profound and dramatically positive changes in our lives only have a permanently beneficial effect if reinforced by this formula. Healing is like a good marriage - it takes time and persistent work to last beyond the first whirlwind of falling in love…
